Service Project - Rebuilding Together Aurora

Our group will be working on the house at 1018 South Pearl Street in Aurora. The home is owned by a retired couple. The husband is a retired veteran of the Vietnam war as well as a retiree from Caterpillar. He was a very handy individual, but can no longer make repairs as he is getting older and is suffering from his exposure to agent orange and has lifelong lung problems. His wife suffers from back problems. The house is in pretty good shape. We will be working on a few tasks that include: replacing a window, cleaning gutters and installing gutter guards, piping the discharge from a couple downspouts away from the house, installing edging along a gutter, minor electrical work, fixing a hole in the concrete floor of the basement, install grab bars in the bathtub, bond the plaster wall in a bedroom and paint the entire bedroom, power wash the front porch to remove existing paint and re-paint, etc. These are not huge tasks, but will help the homeowners greatly. The cost of the materials will be paid for by RTA, but we need a few volunteers to help do the work.

If you are available and would be willing to help this family improve their lives, please let me know. Saturday April 17th will be minor work requiring about 5 people. We will have more work on April 24th and will need 10 to 15 volunteers to complete the various projects. We will start around 8:00 a.m. each day and will quit when the work is complete. I would anticipate that we will be finished around noon on the 17th and sometime in the early afternoon on the 24th. Lunch will be provided for volunteers on the 24th. After we determine who will be volunteering, we will be able to determine what, if any, tools we will need.
